The teams were expecting a change from the last 2 races with wet and cold temperatures so the hot track for practice and qualifying at 28C was great. However race day started with cold, 18C on the track and also light rain so the start began with everybody on intermediate wet tyres. Vettel was back to his usual position on

It was the 60th Anniversary of Ferrari winning at Nurburgring but the Ferraris were only able to manage 4th and 5th on the grid. Red Bull kept their consistency with Webber taking pole position with Hamilton surprising himself in second place. It was the champion’s first miss from the front row this year in 4th place

With the practice days a washout with the weather and the politics regarding the rule changes we were looking forwards to an interesting race. The disadvantage expected by Red Bull with the lack of blown exhaust did not translate into a loss in qualifying as Webber made pole with Vettel in second followed by the two Ferraris. At the start

With the track temperature at 47C and ambient at 32C it looked like a hot day in Valencia, Spain with concentration on saving the rear tyres. This turned out to be the case with several teams having 3 stops. Red Bull did it again with Vettel on pole and his teammate Webber in second place, so much for the pundits

After 10 consecutive pole positions, Vettel was beaten by team mate Webber with Alonso very pleased with himself in 4th place, splitting the McLarens. Qualifying turned into a strategic game with some choosing not to run for a high place to save their soft tyres as the prime tyre was running at 2sec a lap slower

Last season was good and the best for some years, but this year has been outstanding so far. We have to thank Pirelli for this with tyres that degrade after 8 or 10 laps with many passing manoeuvres as drivers slip and slide plus the use of KERS and moveable rear wings

The Grand Prix held in Sepang, Malaysia was what everybody had been waiting for with the change of regulations and new Pirelli tyres designed to wear quickly.
