Formula 1 Grande Premio Petrobas Do Brasil 2011 – Race Review

The Interlagos Circuit at Sao Paulo, the largest city in the southern hemisphere, is the last race of an eventful season. Practice and qualifying was dry but the forecast for race day was wet, so the teams had a tricky time to get set up right for the race.

Qualifying was quite special with Vettel maintaining his supremacy with his 15th pole of the season and beating the previous record held by Nigel Mansell. Webber was consistent with getting second followed by Button, outperforming his teammate Hamilton. Rosberg did well in 6th place just behind Alonso and outperforming his teammate, Michael Schumacher, yet again.

Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2011 – Race Review

Yas Mariner Circuit is an amazing complex built on a man- made island in the desert state of Abu Dhabi. It is run in the evening under flood lights for prime time TV coverage in Europe and also to avoid the high temperatures during the daytime. Vettel took pole position yet again even though Hamilton beat the time in Q2 – Q3 is the one that counts. The 2 McLarens were next followed by Webber in the other Red Bull and the 2 Ferraris.  Vettel equalled Nigel Mansell’s record of 14 pole positions and the 17th time he had been on the front row this season.

Airtel F1 Grand Prix of India, October 2011 – Race Review

The Buddh International Circuit, a brand new track, 30km from Delhi is hot at 31C with lots of dust. Practice was eventful with many offs due to the dust on the track making it very slippery offline with little grip available. There were also penalties of 3 places on the grid given to Perez and Hamilton for ignoring waved yellow flags whilst marshals were clearing a car from the track.

    Suzuka, Japanese Grand Prix 2011

    53 laps @ 5.807km – 307.471km

The Suzuka grand prix track was designed as a Honda test track in 1962 and became a regular circuit every other year with the Toyota owned Fuji on alternate years until 2008. It has a figure of eight layout and with the fast sweeping curves is very aero dependant to provide the ultimate for the top drivers and cars. There have been some high speed offs into the tyre walls and weather sometimes causing problems for some except the wet weather experts. The chicane prior to the finish line causes problems, notably the Senna/ Prost clash in 1989 and again 1990.
